Inauguration of the First Phase of the Avan chemi Factory; A Strategic Step Toward the Country’s Pharmaceutical Self-Sufficiency

In line with the development of the national pharmaceutical industry and the realization of knowledge-based economic goals, the first phase of Avan chemi’s Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing plant was officially inaugurated in May 2025 in the presence of senior national and provincial officials.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, Alborz Governorate, and executives of the Cobel Industrial Group, underscoring Avan chemi’s strategic position in the country’s pharmaceutical supply chain.

The Avan chemi factory, established in Baharestan Industrial Town with an investment exceeding 10,000 billion IRR, is aimed at producing general and high-potency APIs and is considered one of the most advanced industrial units in this field nationwide. With infrastructure aligned to GMP standards and GAMP5 principles, the complex has an annual capacity of 300 tons of general APIs and 3.5 tons of high-potency APIs.

In the first phase, two production lines for general APIs were commissioned, and according to the plan, two specialized lines for oncology and cardiovascular APIs will also come online by the end of the current year.

At the ceremony, the company’s CEO, Dr. Abdollahi, while expressing appreciation for the support of the government and the Cobel Group, announced:

«With the full commissioning of the production lines, more than USD 10 million in foreign currency savings will be achieved annually for the country. In addition, the direct employment of over 140 skilled professionals in this project will play a significant role in creating sustainable jobs in the region.»

Relying on a strong R&D team, Avan chemi has so far registered six knowledge-based products and obtained permits to produce eleven specialized medicines. The company’s primary focus is on life-saving therapies in the areas of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer treatment.

The Governor of Alborz described Avan chemi as a successful example of innovation- and technology-driven development, calling this project one of the vital links on the path to national pharmaceutical self-sufficiency.
